Tanks to protect Plymouth commuters

For contractors South West Highways Ltd, the project has been the largest single contract yet undertaken in the
10 years since its privatisation. Plymouth City Council specified a drainage requirement to meet Highways Agency
and environmental specifications which required the construction of a stormwater retention tank with almost
1000 m³ storage volume.

The scheme arrived at by Tubosider provides a 985m³ storage
volume in 1.8m diameter pipes of 3mm galvanised steel with
Trenchcoat coating, meeting Highways Agency Standard
BD12/01for HA loading and aggressive environmental
conditions and providinga minimum design life of 120 years.

With PPG23 Government guidelines now making stormwater
control systems a major priority, Tubosider attenuation systems
were proposed to reduce risk of flooding and erosion of the
nearby water courses.
