RAF project rolls with the rock

One of the telling factors in choosing Tubosider was its wide range of pipe and tank sizes (from 0.3m to 3.6m diameter)
manufactured in thicknesses from 1.5mm to 3.5mm, allowing solutions to be tailor made to match any project.
The galvanised steel has a design life of 50-60 years in non-aggressive environments, and their gasketed joints
are fully tested and WRc approved to sewers for adoption standards or watertightness.

The original design involved a single leg 2.2m tank
running for several hundred meters, the largest
diameter pipework yet used by Renfrew based
AMEC site manager David Mackenzie. However,
rock was hit early in the project, greatly affecting
the depths to which AMEC could work, and requiring
Tubosider to devise a complete new set of plans to
overcome the problem.

“The solution arrived at will now have a combination
of large 2.2m diameter tank connecting with a series
of 1.2m runs and a four leg manifold at either end, all
to accommodate the difficult terrain at Kinloss,” says
David Mackenzie.

“The underlying rock means we are having to move
water from one area to another, and also allow for the
variations in its depth, but the Tubosider system will
begin installation on schedule.”
